Pay TV Subscribers in North and Latin America, 2015-2025
The number of Pay TV subscribers in North and Latin America approached 172 million by the end of 2015. According to our forecasts, the total number of Pay TV in the region will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2% from 2015 to 2025, reaching 207 million by 2025.
Cable TV, as the dominant technology with 171 million subscribers exhibits the lowest growth rate (1%) over the next 10 years adding 8 million new subscribers.
A wide spectrum of reasons from all over the industry, operators, regulators and analysts attempt to figure out what ‘s happening in the cable industry where the majority of operators with very old price structure and decadent business models are struggling to sing up new customers.
“Clearly the over the top (OTT) platforms to deliver video content are getting more traction at the expenses of Cable TV operators,” Said Dr Qmars Safikhani, Head of Analytical Research at Quantum-Web.
Direct-to- Home (DTH) as the second largest Pay TV platform in the region also exhibit a modest growth rate of 1% in the next years taking the total number of subscribers from 58 million in 2015 to 68 million in 2025.
Digital terrestrial television (DTT) sees the fastest growing rate of Pay TV platform in the next decade. The total number of DTT subscribers will rise by 18% CAGR from current 185 thousand subscribers to nearly 1 million in 2025 subscribers.
IPTV the second fastest growing platform with 8% CAGR showing a healthy growth, adding 18 million new subscribers, expecting to reach 36 million Pay TV customers by 2025.
