In the first quarter of 2006, Cantv continued
with the strong growth rate in accesses recorded
during the last five quarters due to its intense
commercial activity. This resulted in a final
total of 3.127 million fixed telephony accesses
(+6.94% year-on-year), whereas retail broadband
Internet connections amounted to a total 342,880
(+68.08% year-on-year). Furthermore, a strong
increase was also recorded in the number of
Internet users, the total number of which
stood at 504,010 (+28.57% year-on-year).
Revenues
of Broadband services accumulated to March stood at
88.3 million US Dollar, a striking year-on-year increase
of 46.67%. DSL revenues grew to a total of 43 million
US Dollar
( + 72% year-on-year), mainly as a result of the price
reduction by the incumbent. The DSL contribution to
the total broadband revenues stood at 48.88% as of
Q1 2006 Dollar ( + 4% year-on-year).
Broadband packages
starts from 42 US$ for a flat rate of 512 Kbps to
180.77 US$ for a 1.5 Mbps. There is no recurring cost
(Installation, Set-up). The price of modem is 39 US$
and could be paid as a one off payment or on a monthly
basis.
Price elasticity: According to the
result of our price elasticity analysis of Cantv broadband
tariffs for Q2 2005 and Q2 2006, the demand for DSL
broadband is inelastic to the change of prices.
