Quantum-Web
latest Broadband Tariff Benchmarks analysis
shows broadband prices are leveling up for DSL,
cable modem, FTTx and Mobile broadband services.
But this price tenancy varies by bandwidth.
For instance in the low bandwidth segment (up
to 1Mbps) on average, cable and fiber monthly
rentals in €/Mbps terms are half of DSL
and mobile broadband rentals. On the other hand
this diversity is less pronounced on high bandwidth
segment (above 24 mbps) where on average the
gap in monthly rental in €/Mbps terms between
DSL in one hand and cable modem and fiber on
the other hand is about 20%.

In the third quarter
of 2008, prices of DSL and cable modem in the
majority of countries surveyed remained stable,
although some countries experienced a small
fall. In contrast, the mobile broadband and
fiber markets were much more dynamic with price
falls across the board in whole Europe.
These price falls mark
an important shift in the marketing strategies
of fiber and mobile broadband operators as a
whole. Quantum-Web World Broadband Tracker shows
that mobile broadband and fiber not only provide
the fastest mass market broadband access, but
are also pushing further ahead of DSL and cable
modems in more advanced markets.
